Befriender Service
"I am left alone most of the time and I feel lonely and bored."
The Befriender Service is a programme aimed to relieve the loneliness, isolation and boredom of the homebound and single elderly. The service is currently provided islandwide by Lions Befrienders. Under the Befriender Service, volunteers are recruited and trained to befriend, advise and assist lonely senior citizens who are homebound or who have no family support. The main target group is the elderly who live on their own or with other elderly in one- or two-room HDB rental flats.
Home Help Service
"I am weak and unable to prepare my own meal; do my laundry and clean my own house."
The Home Help Service supports the frail elderly in their own homes by providing the following: Meal delivery; laundry service; housekeeping, personal care and hygiene; running of simple errands; transport and escort to hospitals and clinics.
Community Case Management Services
"I am weak and staying alone; I need help in many services such as the dressing of my wounds, house-keeping and meals delivery."
The Community Case Managers who are trained to assess the needs of the older person will find the appropriate services to support the elderly and their caregivers. The main objectives are to help the older person to remain active in the community, reduce the stress of the caregiver and prevent the older person from premature institutionalization.
Day Care Centres
"I need to work to provide financially for the family, but I am worried about leaving my elderly at home."
Day Care Centres (DCCs) for Senior Citizens are daytime programmes that offer supportive help to the frail elderly while their family members are at work. These centres run activities such as maintenance exercises, social and recreational activities to keep the elderly meaningfully occupied. These programmes also provide relief to caregivers who need to run some errands or simply in need of a break. Meals are provided and transport can be arranged for elderly to commute to and from the centre. (Please refer to the RiDE scheme offered by the Central Singapore CDC)
Dementia Day Care Centres
"I need to work to provide financially for the family, but I am worried about leaving my elderly at home."
Dementia Day Care Centres provide custodial and therapeutic services during the day to seniors with dementia. Caregivers of persons with dementia can also seek information, support and respite from these centres.
Day Rehabilitation Centres
"I need to work to provide financially for the family, but I am worried about leaving my elderly at home."
Day Rehabilitation Centres (DRCs) provide occupational and physiotherapy for the senior citizens who require follow-up rehabilitative care after their discharge from hospitals. In addition, they are also able to provide basic nursing care. Meals are provided and transport can be arranged for elderly to commute to and from the centre. (Please refer to the RiDE scheme offered by the Central Singapore CDC)
Counselling Services
"I am feeling down and depressed. I need to talk to someone about my family issues."
Counselling Centres provide counselling services to elderly on personal or family issues.
Employment Services
"I am unemployed and need help."
Provide job matching for older persons.
Senior Activity Centres (SACs)
"I want to join in some activities and programmes so I can also know more friends."
Seniors Activity Centres (SACs) are drop-in centres for seniors residing in one-room HDB rental flats as well as in the immediate neighbourhood. They form the hub for activities and provide a warm, receptive and familiar environment for the seniors who are welcome to drop by at all times during its opening hours. Besides providing social and recreational programmes and activities, SACs also provide support services such as befriending, mutual help schemes, emergency alert response calls, guidance, advice, and information & referral.
Neighbourhood Links (NLs)

Neighbourhood Links are neighbourhood focal points for community activities where residents, particularly seniors, come together for activities and community services that enhance their social well-being and support network in the neighbourhood. Neighbourhood Links also offer opportunities for volunteer efforts, inter-generational activities and serves as a link between residents and service providers in the community.
Sheltered Home
"I want to move to a Home for mobile elderly."
Residential care via sheltered homes is available for those elderly who are without family support. Sheltered homes are licensed under The Homes for the Aged Act (Cap 126A) and come under the purview of MCYS. These homes cater primarily to the accommodation needs of the destitute aged and low-income elderly persons who are unable to live with their family because of breakdown in relationships. They should be independent and able to care for themselves.
Nursing Home
"My mother is bedbound and has high nursing care; I need to work and cannot care for her. She needs some professional care."
Provides residential care for the older person who has become very frail, sick and bedridden with no one to take care. The older person can be admitted into a nursing home if he needs daily nursing care and/or assistance in activities of daily living (such as toileting, walking, grooming and bathing) and if he has no caregiver at home. The older person must be dependent, wheelchair bound or bed bound. In addition, he must be sick with medical conditions, e.g. stroke, diabetes mellitus with complications, head or spinal injury etc.
Home Therapy
"My house is not on lift-landing; I need to continue rehabilitation to strenghthen my limbs and improve my mobility."
The Home Therapy Services aim to meet the needs of homebound patients who have difficulties accessing community-based services such as Day Care or Day Rehabilitation Centres because of their physical/mental/functional problems, environmental and transportation limitations.
Home Therapy Services includes Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy."
